Curated by Houghton Library staff members, “Recent Acquisitions” features new additions to Houghton’s collections. Widely disparate in content and format, they all demonstrate Harvard Library’s commitment to collect and share materials highlighting the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racism. Some items include:

  • A poetry manuscript dated around 1500-1800 written in an extinct Turkic language
  • Astronomer Antonia Maury’s groundbreaking work on spectral classification (1897)
  • Dan Burley’s Original Handbook of Harlem Jive (1944)
  • Biographies of 18th-century transgender spy and diplomat Charlotte d’Éon de Beaumont
  • A collection of Mexican satirical song sheets and broadsides illustrated by woodcut artist José Guadalupe Posada (between 1880–1911)
