3D Printing

Visualize and create tangible models for academic research and teaching

Cabot Science Library offers 3D printing for students and faculty. Using our machines, you can print models that visualize your research. Produce objects for your research or class assignment using Cabot’s 3D printers.

How it works

  1. Log into the 3DPrinterOS platform using your Harvard Key and upload your 3D model file (.STL, .OBJ)
  2. Click Printers at the top of the page and click on the '⋮' to the right of Add Printer.
  3. Select Add workgroup printers and enter cab-llama as the access code
  4. Slice your model (this converts the 3D model into a series of layers and generates the necessary code, G-code, for printing)
  5. Choose an available 3D printer from the list of printers
  6. Configure your print settings (layer height, fill density, support structures)
  7. Submit your print job; the platform will queue your job for printing on the selected printer

Monitor printing progress

You can check the status and see an estimated completion time in 3DPrinterOS. Once the print is complete, you'll be notified to collect your printed object.

Things to know

  • There is a 20-hour cap on individual print jobs
  • Users are limited to 10 print jobs per semester
